Time flies, huh? I don't want to whip up the classical "I've been busy" excuse. You knew that already. But what has happened with me over these few months? A few things, actually.

I traded my 4-year stint at my former job for a new one at 15 minutes from home. Walking. Alas, not in illustration or cartooning but on the same old thing - web development. Hey, I gotta pay the bills somehow. But the time and money I'm saving on commuting and gas (hours, every day) are being heavily invested on creating new works for betobeto.com and this place. I've been nurturing the habit of making some progress every day and the results should be up here soon.

I have the firm purpose of running my own business profitably by the time I hit 40. Might it have to do with illustration, editorial work, new technologies? Probably a mix of it all. I have a few more years to go before reaching that goal and I'm shaping my expectations as I go along.

Also, I upgraded some of my gear - I originally was aiming for a Wacom Cintiq tablet, but the 12" version didn't convince me and the 21" version wasn't in stock when I went to New York last May (I was willing to shell out the $2k for it!). So I settled on the next best choice - a Wacom Intuos4 medium size, plus a new NEC 23" IPS DVI display. Both are such a joy to look at and work with. I think I made the best decision.

So that's sort of the current state of affairs around here in the tropics. More travels and adventures are set for the not so distant future but there's still a lot of work to do before that. Thanks again for stopping by and for having interest on what I do.

When I opened this account about 2 years ago, I really didn't have much idea of what was I really going to do with it. I just used it to gather artwork from DA contacts I liked, while I concentrated on the ardorous task of trying to get my official site off the ground.

Until I realized to myself, "What I've got to lose by putting my stuff here as well"? And so I revamped this place quite a bit. Made it Premium and hope to add more stuff in the future. At least here on DA I can be sure I'll have some captive audience.

This also sort of comes on my whole scheme of trying to make the transition from computer programmer (How I ended up doing that? I don't know!) to being able to live off my art, or -most likely- try to find a balance between the two. We'll see. For now, the only sure thing is that there is a truckload of work ahead to make it happen. But there's no turning back for me.
